Apply for a Grant
Applying for a Grant
The Mayor of Southwark’s Common Good Trust gives out grants to residents of the London Borough of Southwark who are in need of financial or material assistance. If you feel like you may need a grant, or if you know somebody who is, please read the questions below.
-
We give out grants to anyone who lives in Southwark, or has links to the area, and is in need of financial or material assistance. If you live in Southwark and are having difficulties, particularly difficulties caused by disability, learning difficulties, mental health issues, old age or infirmity, or ill health, you may be able to apply for a grant.
You may apply for a grant for yourself or a family member, or you may be sponsored by a social or care worker, who can apply for a grant on your behalf. If you apply directly for yourself or your family, a home visit may have to be arranged so that your living situation can be assessed.
-
The grant may be a specific household item that needs replacement, for example a person may need a new essential item such as a bedframe or boiler. In your application you must be specific about which items need repairs or replacement.
-
Yes, but your income must be accurately reported in your application, including benefits, pension, as well as any income from paid work.
-
If you apply directly for yourself, or on behalf of family members, the charity may arrange a home visit so that your living situation can be assessed. If your application is handled by a social or care worker, they may complete any necessary checks.
If your need for a grant involves a medical condition or disability, then details must be supported by notes from your GP, Care Manager, or Consultant.
-
If you are still not sure whether you can apply for a grant, you may want to contact a social worker or care worker if you have one.
If not, then you can email the Trust at mscgtrust@gmail.com, and we will be happy to answer your questions. You can also send your questions by post. The Trust’s PO Box can be found on the contact us page.
